Frequently Asked Questions

How do I view previous Claude Code sessions?
Claude Code saves every session as a JSONL file under ~/.claude/projects/<project>/<session-id>.jsonl. Drop a single file or the whole project folder here to browse the full conversation.
Is my session file uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing happens entirely in your browser with no API calls and no server upload. Session files contain your code, file paths and sometimes secrets — which is exactly why this tool is 100% client-side.
What does the viewer support?
This Claude Code JSONL viewer supports Markdown rendering for user and assistant messages, extended thinking blocks, tool call parameters and results, images, token usage and cost stats — with an interface in 10 languages.
What is the .jsonl format?
JSON Lines — one independent JSON object per line. Claude Code logs every message, tool call and metadata entry as a line.
Is CCViewer free?
Yes, it is free and open-source. No sign-up required.

Session Library

Tip (macOS): in the picker press <kbd>⌘⇧.</kbd> to reveal hidden folders, or in Finder press <kbd>⌘⇧G</kbd> and type <code>~/.claude/projects</code>. The picker remembers your last folder.

Browser storage is full; some sessions were saved as summary only.

No sessions yet. Open a folder of .jsonl files to build your library.

Paste JSONL text

Paste the whole history file here, one JSON object per line (a single JSON array / object also works).
